The White Pumpkin Charlie Brown
Taking advantage of a truly gorgeous fall day, I found myself at “The Farm at Swan’s Trail” ready to find the perfect pumpkin.
“What kind of pumpkin are you looking for?” my friend from forever asked, hoping that this wouldn’t be an all day selection process.
“A nice orange round one,” I said, as I fought against my OCD or perfectionist tendencies to check every pumpkin in the patch before settling on one. This may seem like an exaggeration, and if you’ve ever been to the pumpkin patch with me, you’ll think I don’t fight too hard and I cover way too much ground before choosing a pumpkin, but I really do try. Each pumpkin I see I have this voice in my head saying, how many acres is this patch? how many pumpkins? surely this isn’t the best.
Almost as soon as I said I was looking for a nice orange round one, I described how the orangeness should be. Vibrant. Not brown. Not too yellow, and definitely no green. Then I saw someone pushing a wheel barrow full of pumpkins, with perfectly round white pumpkins on top and I had to have one.
After I’d already settled on an almost round, almost orange enough pumpkin I stumbled on this little white one. It’s not perfectly round but I kind of love it. I even don’t feel too guilty about the nagging feeling that I accidentally took it from it’s intended owner (a small child).
If only it could be fall forever.
